What to do after your massage while here in Taunton MA.

Visiting Taunton MA!

After your massage why don’t you take a moment to read a book in Taunton’s historic green, where you can view the old court house that has a beautiful water sculpture.  If you are lucky enough to book your appointment during the holiday season you will see Taunton Green’s holiday light show.  It is simply amazing, but bring some gloves and a scarf!  This city has great events, shops and places to visit and I’ve highlighted just a few below.102 175x300 What to do after your massage while here in Taunton MA.

  • There is a fantastic authentic Mexican restaurant down town called El Mariachi (http://www.elmariachimexicanrestaurant.com/) or if you take a 10 minute drive down towards Bay St. you will find the legendary Benjamin’s Restaurant where there is live music every week (http://www.benjaminsrestaurant.com/pages/cfHome.cfm).
  • Why not try some shopping at Taunton’s Antique Store.  They have two showroom floors of everything imaginable.   (http://tauntonantiques.com/previewer/services.html).
  • Relaxation Works is located 2 miles from RT 44 Raynham MA where you can stop in and get a tea at Panera Bread, grab some good deals at Marshall’s next door or head over to Bernie and Phyl’s Furniture.  Don’t forget to drive down the street to Morning Star All Natural Food Store (http://brightmorningstarcenter.com/index.htm) and pick up all things crunchy granola (my personal favorite stop).  Another great find for all those plant lovers out there is Lovely Day (Olson’s Greenhouse) http://lovelydaygardens.com/.  The staff there is “lovely” and they have actually helped me with picking the plants that adorn the outside of my office from time to time.
  • Due to its’ great Portuguese culture- there are always Portuguese festivals going on.  I’m Italian BUT I love their festivals and they love having me!
  • The Heart of Taunton is a private non-profit that is constantly looking to improve the beautification of Taunton’s downtown.  There are events held in the Taunton Green throughout the year and you can see the dates on their website (http://www.heartoftaunton.com/).  This year in September they had “Fabulous Family Fun Day” with a  free concert series featuring The Freezepops.
  • Every Thursday, July 7th through October there is a Farmers Market from 12noon – 5pm at First Parish Church (across from the Police Station).  This is located on the same street as Relaxation Works 1/2 a mile up the road.  Support local vendors!
  • The Taunton Art Association is dedicated to promoting the arts throughout the community.  Visit their website for show details (http://tauntonarts.org/default.aspx).
There you have it!  Just a few great places to stop in and take a peak at or attend after your massage.  I have quite a few clients that travel more than 30 miles to see me, It’s nice to know that this city has great fun things to offer my clients.  Happy stress free day!

Homemade Laundry Soap

That’s right! On Friday nights I am making bank by saving some cold hard cash.  How do you ask?  Why making homemade laundry soap of course.  DIY is in my blood and I can’t tell you how fun this is.  I don’t know if it is because I can customize the scents or the sheer fact that I save hundreds of dollars a year.  I do A LOT of laundry a week.  That is a lot of soap and folding, and since I can’t afford an assistant or laundry service I am doing it DIY style.  As a member of the Taunton Garden Club, I get to sit in on all the fun talks the club holds.  One month, Leslie Reichert The Green Cleaning Coach showed us how to make our own laundry soap.  It took me over 5 months to actually make the stuff but I finally did it.  You can also see a post from Bodywork by Bobbi who has the recipe I followed then added lots of essential oil and a splash of Thieves cleaner for added measure.

Being an essential oil obsessee for 10+ years you know I had to throw in some Young Living essential oils.  Thieves, Rosemary and Lemon EO for my sheets at my Taunton office and Rosewood, Lavender, peppermint and orange EO for my home use.  They both smell AMAZING and are so effective.

Here is a picture of what the soap should look like when all chopped up.

Because numbers are kind of my thing I HAD to figure out how much it cost per load to make this stuff (ya, I really actually like to figure this stuff out but please don’t ever ask me to balance my check book).  Here is the nitty gritty:

  • Fels Naptha soap was $.97 each
  • Borax and washing soda was $3.24 each.

Per 5 gallons of concentrated soap

Washing Soda = $.47 per 5 gallons

Fels Naptha = $.97 per 5 gallons

Borax = $.18 per 5 gallons

Essential oils (300 drops per bottle = around $.10 per drop) = 30 drops -- $3.00

I like A LOT of essential oil in my stuff so you may only use 10 drops or so but really I feel like I can add as many as I want!

That’s a grand total of $4.62 per 5 gallons of CONCENTRATED laundry soap.  Like really?!  It ends up being negative 1 billion per load…it’s better than extreme couponing.  This I love!

Here I have food processed each Fels Naptha bar of soap then individually bagged it.  These can be DIY gifts for my massage friends that I know do lots of laundry as well or just another way for me to prepare for when I make the 5 gallon bucket of soap again.  It looks like cheese or popcorn, I haven’t deciphered which yet.  Either way, it’s a fun project that is effective and I like effective!

Donate your old sheets!

Do you have old sheets that you don’t need any longer? Great! All old sheets here at the office get donated to the Taunton Animal Shelter for all the orphaned cats and dogs that need new homes.  Did you know that sheets in a massage therapy practice are considered disposable, they don’t last very long and start to loose their luster or smell of rancid oil!

The sheets allow these cute critters to be warm and snugglll*yy while they wait for their new home!  My two amazing cats came from the shelter 2 years ago and are doing well!!  Bring your sheets with you to your next appointment and I will add them to my pile that goes every couple of months.

Mr Scott looking very lazy just like a king should and miss Willa likes to show offer her dainty figure.  These cats are truly amazing and greet everyone that comes to my home with lots of purrrs.  There is a slight bad habit of jumping on my guests lap while they are at the dinner table or while we are playing cards.  They are my babies and like any good mother I laugh a little inside every time and think how cute icon smile Donate your old sheets!  They are so affectionate and loving and I cant’ believe I was lucky enough to find them at the Taunton Animal Shelter!
