For 5 wonderful years I owned, operated and created bath and body products from scratch and created a great business for myself. I learned a lot about science during that time. Out of the 50+ carrier oils I worked with daily to create my body scrubs and lotions one oil in particular was amazing to work with and that was jojoba oil. Its texture is very light and it has no scent to it. As a business owner I loved it because it never went rancid and it was very cost effective. Read more to find out why.
Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax. That means it will never go bad and has a shelf life of forever! This is key to a spa professional or massage therapist that is responsible for providing their own lubricants. Buy it once and have it for years to come. I mainly use jojoba oil in my massage practice for spa treatments and facial massage. Some massage therapist don’t like to use oil in general and I am one of them. I typically use lotion in my treatments just because I enjoy working with it so much. But for clients that have allergies JOJOBA oil is a MUST to have on hand.
Here some science geek talk for you. Your skin produces a natural oil called sebum. Typically you will feel it in the T-Zone of your face (forehead and middle of your face). When applied to the skin, jojoba oil has this scientifically unexplained way to adjust your own skin’s natural sebum. Thus regulating oil production of your skin. So those that have oily skin should ditch the oil free facial lotion and use jojoba oil instead. It’s natural and had no preservatives. I myself like to mix lavender and geranium essential oil with it for even more healing properties. Just make sure you are adding an essential oil that is 100% pure and has absolutely no additives or fillers.
Try The Jojoba Company. It’s well worth the money and it’s the best quality oil. I have been ordering from them since 2003. They typically have a booth at the AMTA NERC event. You can learn more about that on AMTA’s MA Chapter website here.
So in conclusion, jojoba oil is cost effective because it never ever goes rancid which means it will never have that nasty smell to it which is not professional. Jojoba oil helps regulate the skin’s natural oil production and virtually is allergy free.

LOVE jojoba – but switched from it because of higher cost and limited availability in my area. I switched over to organic safflower oil instead and I am very happy with it

Arina – I agree jojoba oil is expensive especially since there was a drought a few years ago and jojoba oil production nearly dropped to almost nothing. I like to consider my long term investment when I purchase products as well as client satisfaction. Putting oil on a clients face can be uncomfortable for them, especially if they are prone to breakouts. You only need two or three drops of jojoba for it to be effective. After about 15 months if kept in a cool dark place safflower oil will go rancid and also does not match our skins sebum as much as jojoba oil does. With that said I typically do not use jojoba oil for a full body treatment or to massage with it because of the cost so I can understand your concern. I use it sparingly on delicate areas like the face and also carry it with me for personal use when I travel because it can stand the heat. 7 years later I still have half of the gallon I purchases.
