{video how-to} Stop rubbing your back on trees like this big black bear

Here is a quick 5 minute video telling you about some of the tools I advise each one of my clients to use for self-care at home.  For most of us, receiving a massage everyday is not plausible.  Using a self-care tool a few times a week helps your body heal from chronic pain disorders such as sciatica, low back pain, pain in between the shoulder blades, neck pain, migraines, chronic headaches behind the eyes, whiplash injuries or even plantar fasciitis.

The Thumby, now your partner has no excuse not to give you a massage.

This tool is great because it actually attaches itself against the wall!  I have yet to find a tool that does it so perfectly like the thumby.  This tool is soft but the design makes it perfect for that guy or gal that gets tired of massaging your neck or back.  The thumby gives 8lbs per square inch of pressure because of it’s design which is really cool.  I used this tool for myself when I was experiencing tendinitis in my wrist, elbow and shoulder.  It was the main tool that allowed me to get back to work quicker and pain free.

The Theracane, the chronic pain sufferers new best friend

black bear 198x300 {video how to} Stop rubbing your back on trees like this big black bearAre you like this big black bear?  Do you rub your back on door jams and other miscellaneous items in place of pain relief for your back.  Check out the video below to find out how the theracane self-care tool will provide relief for your pain in your upper shoulders, in between your shoulder blades and neck.

These quality professional tools are a perfect addition to your massage therapy sessions.  Pain is real!  Being proactive in your own healing is empowering.  Repetitive stress often times causes adhesion’s  (tight, sensitive areas in the body) in the soft tissue and manual manipulation of those areas are the most effective way to treat your pain.

These tools are available at the office for purchase so grab one, two or three the next time you come in to see us!

Living Authentically in Business and Life

beautiful sunrise 300x225 Living Authentically in Business and Life

Taken from: www.themumukshusoul.wordpress.com

I am very comfortable with telling others I own my own business.  It was something that took me awhile to settle in with; but I’ve had a few years to practice it ever since my first business back in 2003.  One thing I am not accustomed to telling others is that I am a B O S S or a L EA D E R.  This new role is coming very naturally and I like it.  I am ROCKING it like nobody’s business and I couldn’t be happier.  But it is still scary.

This week Katie and I had our first official Relaxation Works staff meeting.  I think I will be awarding us a certificate of achievement.  This is a really big deal and I didn’t know it until I read this article on Entrepreneur.com about “7 Deadly Sins of Business Meetings”.

I PASSED!  I passed on all 7 deadly sins and you know what, I did it without knowing it.  That right there is proof that being authentic, a real true person that cares and finds joy in other peoples success makes everything else fall into place.  My intentions are good and I continually put my efforts into changing lives and making a difference rather than taking what is only good for myself.  Our staff meeting included client feedback, future planning, current policies and a company trip to Panera bread for some much needed celebratory goodies.

When you are authentic to the very being of your soul everything you put your effort into becomes authentically you.

Being authentic can be different for many different people but for me it means:

  • Staying away from gossip.
  • Saying what I mean and mean what I say.
  • Practice forgiveness, even when the other person is unaccepting of it.
  • Say thank you to EVERYONE.
  • Keep improving on my pitfalls.
  • Giving up my judgments of others.
  • Pray.
  • Make today a new day even if yesterday SUCKED!
  • Keep doing the work and fight internal struggles when giving up seems like a great alternative.
  • Seeing the best in any situation (this can be hard).

Being transparent in business and life is a huge part of being authentic.  I have not always been authentic and I still work at it every day.  Authenticity has been a big learning curve for me.  I was not born this way or taught this at an early age.  My past struggles include a cluster of bad choices and behaviors.   Change can happen.  If it can happen to me it can happen to you.  Keep trying, keep plugging away at being authentic.  IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER.

31 in 31 blog challange: Why Jojoba oil is the mack daddy of carrier oils

Picture 12 300x221 31 in 31 blog challange: Why Jojoba oil is the mack daddy of carrier oilsFor 5 wonderful years I owned, operated and created bath and body products from scratch and created a great business for myself.  I learned a lot about science during that time.  Out of the 50+ carrier oils I worked with daily to create my body scrubs and lotions one oil in particular was amazing to work with and that was jojoba oil.  Its texture is very light and it has no scent to it.  As a business owner I loved it because it never went rancid and it was very cost effective.  Read more to find out why.

Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax.  That means it will never go bad and has a shelf life of forever!  This is key to a spa professional or massage therapist that is responsible for providing their own lubricants.  Buy it once and have it for years to come.  I mainly use jojoba oil in my massage practice for spa treatments and facial massage.  Some massage therapist don’t like to use oil in general and I am one of them.  I typically use lotion in my treatments just because I enjoy working with it so much.  But for clients that have allergies JOJOBA oil is a MUST to have on hand.

Here some science geek talk for you.  Your skin produces a natural oil called sebum.  Typically you will feel it in the T-Zone of your face (forehead and middle of your face).  When applied to the skin, jojoba oil has this scientifically unexplained way to adjust your own skin’s natural sebum.  Thus regulating oil production of your skin.  So those that have oily skin should ditch the oil free facial lotion and use jojoba oil instead.  It’s natural and had no preservatives.  I myself like to mix lavender and geranium essential oil with it for even more healing properties.  Just make sure you are adding an essential oil that is 100% pure and has absolutely no additives or fillers.

Try The Jojoba Company. It’s well worth the money and it’s the best quality oil.  I have been ordering from them since 2003.  They typically have a booth at the AMTA NERC event. You can learn more about that on AMTA’s MA Chapter website here.

So in conclusion, jojoba oil is cost effective because it never ever goes rancid which means it will never have that nasty smell to it which is not professional.  Jojoba oil helps regulate the skin’s natural oil production and virtually is allergy free.

Feeding all the riders and volunteers!

This will be my 5th year volunteering as a massage therapist at the PMC at Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, MA and I can’t tell you how excited I am A G A I N!  This year I am taking a big gulp (very big gulp) and collecting training tips for an awesome, super exciting blog post where real riders give real tips that really work!  Please send me your #1 (or two or three) tip that has helped you train, go farther in your training or brought you inspiration to even take a leap in faith and raise money to train and ride.  Inspire those that have thought about riding and give them some amazing kick butt advice that has gotten you through the ride itself or weeks leading up to the ride.  As a massage therapist I know that the day for me is long and takes me 48 hours to recover from all the massaging that is done that day.  I have tips for massage therapist but since I do not ride, I need YOU to give me some great insight to the riding world.  If you have a riding blog please include that link, I will post that with your tip.

Tweetable!  I just submitted my top tip for riding in the PMC, go and submit yours too!  #PMCRiderTips

Practical tips are need just as much as inspirational tips.  Your tips help bring awareness to cancer and the efforts being made to find a cure.
