CBD Massage and How It Works With Your Body

I am always seeking ways to bring in natural alternatives to eliminate or help diminish stress, anxiety and pain into my life and the lives of our clients.  Much of what we offer at Relaxation Works is also things I use in my daily life.  CBD is new to me and has become mainstream in the past few years.  I researched CBD for over a year before deciding on Select CBD for its effectiveness, quality and cost.  We now carry CBD patches, CBD oil, CBD muscle rub as well as CBD for your dog in our Spa Retail Boutique!  Our clients are reporting effective results especially with the CBD muscle rub for pain relief.  It’s awesome to hear week after week the feedback from them on how their pain is being relieved by using the muscle rub or how CBD is helping them with their anxiety.

CBD Massage

CBD is cumulative, does not contain THC and is not psychoactive. As a massage therapist, I used to work a woman’s event every year offering hour-long massage as part of the retreat package. In one weekends time I would do a weeks worth of work, that’s about 15-20 massages.  I did this year after year.  One year I decided to apply some tiger balm (a natural topical pain reliever) to any of the woman that wanted it and many did.  After about the 5th massage I started to feel a warming sensation course through my body, and I could taste the natural clove oil.  At about massage number 8 I noticed red splotches all over my arm and legs.  The natural cinnamon and clove oils were coursing through my body and by the end of the night, I had the chills.  My body was reacting to so much tiger balm being transferred to my own skin from using it during the treatments.  None of the woman that received the tiger balm experienced what I was and rightfully so.  In the appropriate doses, the product does what it is supposed to do.   That experience showed me how dosages are crucial.

How To Choose A CBD Options In A Massage

CBD is used for overall wellness and specific pain disorders.  Here is a guide to know which CBD massage option will work best for you.  Knowing this information will help your massage therapist create a wellness plan for you and use the CBD in a specific way.

Overall Wellness: You are looking to reduce stress and anxiety, find natural solutions for a calming sense and are seeking to enhance the relaxation effects of massage.  During your massage treatment, the CBD product will be applied to either the entire body or the majority of the body.  This allows for the CBD to be absorbed in a diluted dose.

Pain Relief: You have pain in a specific area of the body.  For example your shoulders and that one spot in between your shoulder blades. They always feel tight and even though massage helps to relieve your pain, each and every time you have a massage you ask your therapist to concentrate on those areas.  During your massage treatment, the CBD product will be applied to the specific areas, this allows for the CBD to be absorbed into the specific area of concern.

Either way, you are receiving the same milligram dosage, it’s the application that changes. Discuss your symptoms with your massage therapist and they will help you decide which option is best for you.  Depending on the massage therapists’ comfort level and CBD massages performed your therapist may or may not wear gloves during the application of the CBD product.

CBD will be an add-on to your whole health massage or membership massage.  Look for it in the drop-down menu when scheduling online.

How CBD Works

I love how Medical Today (Medical News Today is a web-based outlet for medical news, targeted at both physicians and the general public.) puts it when describing how CBD works in the body:

  • All cannabinoids, including CBD, produce effects in the body by attaching to certain receptors.

  • The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It also has two receptors for cannabinoids, called the CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors.

  • CB1 receptors are present throughout the body, but many are in the brain.

  • The CB1 receptors in the brain deal with coordination and movement, pain, emotions, and mood, thinking, appetite, and memories, and other functions. THC attaches to these receptors.

  • CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system. They affect inflammation and pain.

  • Researchers once believed that CBD attached to these CB2 receptors, but it now appears that CBD does not attach directly to either receptor.

CBD For Dogs

If you have been to Relaxation Works then you probably have met my therapy dog in training Luna.  She is a sweet girl that loves her belly rubs and sleeping as much as possible.  But she can be anxious when it comes to loud noises, especially fireworks.  I’ve noticed that the CBD has been helping her with less panting and she doesn’t zig-zag back and forth as long anymore.  If your dog suffers from anxiety from time to time try our peanut butter CBD for dogs.  I also use it for her diagnosed Lyme disease.  For this reason, I am using CBD for longevity and wellness.  I’m hoping this will help with joint discomfort and mobility.  I don’t have any research on these effects as of yet but I’m interested to see how things play out in the long term.  This is one of the reasons why I love CBD, it helps with overall wellness and specific conditions.
